What’s Involved In Our Inpatient Rehab in Knoxville, TN

After an intake assessment, clients are either placed directly into the inpatient rehab program or are first put through a clinically supervised detox program if they’re dependent on substances. Our 24/7 detox staff administers medication and offers individual support, ensuring that clients experience minimal or zero withdrawal symptoms and feel safe and motivated to continue the addiction treatment process.

Once admitted into the inpatient or residential program, clients can expect to participate in individual therapy sessions, group sessions, educational classes, relapse prevention and skill-building lessons, holistic therapy sessions, family therapy, and a dedicated therapeutic nutrition class. In inpatient rehab, each clinical day is scheduled seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, followed by free time.

Evidence-Based Therapy Sessions

Our inpatient rehab program features evidence-based therapy methods focusing on behavior, cognitive beliefs, experiences, and underlying mental health disorders. Our treatment staff uses acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients accept thoughts, process emotions, explore behaviors or beliefs that align with their values, and resolve mixed feelings toward addiction or the need for treatment. Our therapists also incorporate person-centered therapy approaches to every session and treatment plan so clients feel genuinely cared for and understood.

Group Therapy Sessions

Group sessions held during our inpatient rehab program are the perfect opportunity for clients to share and hear experiences from empathetic peers. Our weekday primary group sessions involve just a few clients and are held by their assigned clinician, who uses various therapy methods, such as dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). This helps clients reflect and support each other without feeling overwhelmed in a large group. On weekends, clients typically attend process group sessions that address psychological and emotional aspects of addiction and recovery.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

Knoxville Recovery Center is licensed and able to provide FDA-approved medication to help clients experiencing physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms (e.g., buprenorphine/naloxone, methadone, naltrexone/depot Naltrexone, acamprosate) as well as medication for co-occurring disorders, some of which include depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and schizophrenia.

Holistic Therapy Sessions

Knoxville Recovery Center doesn’t expect clients to heal and recover solely from traditional therapy methods, so we incorporate holistic healing modalities into our inpatient rehab program. Our dedicated yoga studio is perfect for Qigong sessions, expressive arts and mindfulness classes, and individual and guided meditation. Two days a week, we host Just For Today sessions right after breakfast, where clients can plan out their intentions and affirmations for the day.

Family Therapy Sessions

Family therapy plays a crucial role with our approach at Knoxville Recovery Center. Each client has a primary clinician who communicates with their family weekly. Once a good relationship is established, we invite family members, significant others, and other natural supports to join therapy sessions with their loved ones. This promotes collaboration, communication, and solid support, assuring clients that their family is fully backing them. It also helps family members understand substance use disorders, set boundaries, and identify and plan for the client’s needs when they return home.

Addiction Education

Learning about addiction is just as important as resisting a substance. Some of our addiction education sessions include a relapse prevention course where clients learn how to respond to cravings and stress; neuroscience-informed psychoeducation sessions that explore how the brain functions and develops dependencies on substances; and SMART goals, where clients learn how to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound objectives. Knoxville Recovery is also extremely proud of our nutrition education program, where clients learn how cooking and planning meals can make all the difference during recovery.

Skill Building Classes

We recognize that drug addiction can rob individuals of essential life skills, and sending them off after addiction treatment without any new skills isn’t enough. This is why we host multiple skill-building classes throughout the week that cover basic life skills, creating self-care routines, and improving problem-solving abilities. We also address sensitive and raw emotions related to substance use, such as anger management, shame, guilt, emotional control, resilience, and dealing with grief and loss.
